Playing
What is Far Fetched?
A free geography game played in Google Street View. You're dropped onto a road somewhere in the world, you look around for clues, and you type the country you think you're in. Timed games are a race to name as many countries as you can before the clock runs out.
How do I move around?
Drag the picture to look around, scroll or pinch to zoom, and click the arrows on the road to move along it. If you wander off, Back to start takes you back to where the place began.
How does scoring work?
3 points for the right country, 2 for a country that shares a border with it, and 1 for a country in the same part of the world. The game splits the world into 24 parts, such as Western Europe, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. Guess Austria when you're in Germany and you get 2 points; guess Italy when you're in Portugal and you get 1. A wrong guess never takes points away.
How long is a game?
Global, Solo and Flags games last 1, 3 or 5 minutes, and 3 is the default. Ranked games last 3 minutes. The daily challenge, City Ten and Survival have no clock.
What happens if a place won't load?
The game tries again first. If the place still can't be shown, it's skipped without costing you points, and the place is flagged so it can be taken out of the game. Each player gets a few free skips like this per game.
What are Normal, Urban and Natural?
Urban places are in towns and cities. Natural places are out in the countryside, mountains and wilderness, where the landscape matters more than the signs. Normal mixes the two.
Which countries are in the game?
214 countries and territories, from Brazil and Japan to Malta and the Faroe Islands. Each one has a country guide explaining what to look for.
Can I practise one part of the world?
Yes. Solo, Survival and private games can be set to one region: Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East, Africa or Oceania. Only whole-world runs count for the Solo and Survival leaderboards.
Playing with others
How do Global matches work?
Pick a length and a version and join the queue. When enough players are waiting, a match starts for up to 30 players, all seeing the same places in the same order. The most points when the clock runs out wins. Winning against at least two other players earns 25 Miles.
How do I play with friends?
Create a private game and share its 6-letter code or invite link. As the host you choose the mode, length, region and version, and up to 30 people can join. It works well for a family, a group of friends or a class.
What is the daily challenge?
The same 5 places for everyone each day, with a new set at midnight UTC. You get one guess per place and no clock, scored out of 15. Finishing on consecutive days builds a streak, and you can share your result as coloured squares that don't give the answers away.
What is Ranked?
Ranked is for Far Fetched Pro members. You're matched with players of a similar rating, up to 8 at a time, in 3-minute Normal games. After 5 placement games you get a rank, from Bronze up to Grandmaster. Seasons last three months, and you earn a frame and a title for the best rank you reach.
Progress and rewards
What are XP and levels?
Every answer that scores earns XP: 10 for the right country, 6 for a neighbour and 3 for the same part of the world. Winning a multiplayer match earns bonus XP. Levels never stop, and each one earns Miles.
What is the Passport?
Your Passport stamps every country you've named correctly in Street View: bronze the first time, then silver, then gold. A world map shows which parts of the world you know best.
What are Miles?
Miles are the game's currency. You earn them by levelling up, winning public matches and inviting friends (500 Miles each when your friend has played a few games), and Pro members get 750 every month. You spend them on titles, icons, frames, backgrounds and other looks. Miles have no cash value, and nothing in the shop changes how the game plays.
Do Flags games count?
Flags games earn XP and have their own leaderboards, but they don't stamp your Passport. The Passport is a record of places you've recognised in Street View.
Accounts, Pro and safety
Do I need an account?
No. You can play straight away as a guest. A free account keeps your stats, level and Passport, puts you on the leaderboards and lets you add friends. If you create an account after playing as a guest, your progress comes with you.
What does Far Fetched Pro include?
Pro costs USD $3.99 a month. It removes ads on every device you sign in on, unlocks Ranked and its season rewards, adds 750 Miles to your account every month and shows a Pro badge on your profile. You can cancel at any time from the Pro page in the game.
Is Far Fetched suitable for children?
We work to keep it friendly: chat is filtered, players can be reported, moderators review reports, and guests can't send direct messages or add friends. Accounts are for ages 13 and up, and under 18s need a parent's permission. Younger children are welcome to play alongside a parent or teacher.
How do I report a player or a place?
Use Report on a player's profile, in a chat or on the results screen, and the flag button during a game to report a place that's broken, indoors or misleading. You can also contact us.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. Far Fetched runs in any up-to-date browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to download.
How do I contact you?
Email [email protected]. The contact page explains what to include so we can help quickly.
